The Stupid Studies |
Those who make or promote violent movies will often quote a line like this........"Well other studies have shown that violent movies reduce violence." They are refering to what I call The Stupid Studies. I doubt if those quoting the above actually know how these "studies" were conducted. They only want to be able to quote something to justify making violent movies. Here is how several such "studies" were conducted: When a violent movie is a hit, it is shown in multi theatres throughout a city. The highest movie attendance is from 7 pm to 11 pm when the movies end. These people found that during this time period, there are fewer hospital admissions for injuries caused by violence, and fewer 911 calls. They conclude that those prone to commit violence are at the movie, which is better than being out on the street commiting violence. Other "studies" were variations on this same idea. These "studies" essentially prove nothing, and that is why I call them Stupid Studies. Perhaps they are done by the same folks who once tried to prove that cigarettes don't cause lung cancer, or those who "prove" global warming is OK. Filmmakers who are making violent movies want to believe they are harmless, and so they make themselves believe they are harmless. That is why you will hear them refer to these "studies". But in your heart, you know what's right. |
An experiment that actually does prove something. |
In this experiment, actors were used to test the reactions of people who had just viewed a violent movie, and people who had just viewed a non violent movie. It went like this.......... actors with crutches and a fake cast on one foot hobbled in front of the doors to theatres just as a movie was getting out. They "accidentally" dropped a crutch, and needed someone to help by picking it up for them. The unidentified experiment team observed and timed how long it took for someone to come to the aid of the person, and how many came. Those who had just watched a violent movie were slower to come to the aid of the person, and fewer came. It would be fair to say that those who had just watched a violent movie were less caring and compassionate. It is obviously opposite of what the world needs at this time. |
